A single-family detached home, also called a single-detached dwelling, single-family residence (SFR) or separate house is a free-standing residential building.
A bi-level includes two short sets of stairs and two levels. The entry is between floors. The front door opens to a landing. One short flight of stairs leads up to the top floor; another short flight of stairs leads down.
A split-level home (also called a 4/5 level split home) is a style of house in which the floor levels are staggered. There are typically two short sets of stairs, one running upward to a bedroom level, and one going downward toward a basement area.
A condominium arrangement where the ownership of the real estate is assigned to specific unit is usually used only with detached or semi-detached houses but there are common areas which are shared and owned by the condominium association which charges a fee for the common usage and maintenance.
A townhouse, or town house is a type of terraced housing or it can be row housing. A modern town house is often one with a small footprint on the ground with multiple floors or it can be on multiple floor levels.
A duplex are dwellings with two independent homes sharing one common wall. A triplex has three independent homes which may have adjoining walls and/or floors.
